PSA's

One of the significant downsides to listening to Internet radio is how the stations generally manage commercials. Either they mute the commercials, which creates a jarring stop and go audio stream that makes it difficult to concentrate, or they play an endless series of the same public service announcements. Today, here were some of the things that I learned.

  • I should Be a Big Brother
  • I should support starving people in Nicaragua
  • I should Help blind people
  • I should not smoke or be overweight, or else I'll die of diabetes.
  • I should help kids with learning disabilities
  • I should be involved in my kids' education
  • I should help starving kids in America (1 in 5 kids in America is starving)
  • Laura Bush says I should help starving kids
  • I should take CPR so I can save kids' lives
  • I should register for selective service, or else I won't get to experience the coolness of college
  • I should wear a bike helmet or else I'll get serious brain damage
  • I could lose all my money in the stock market
  • I should wear sunscreen, or else I'll get skin cancer
  • I should support children's disease research hospitals, or else all the kids will die
  • I should support Earth Share, or the world will die
  • I should eat environmentally friendly seafood, or the oceans will die
This has to be counterproductive after a while. (1) There's too many dire warnings, so they all run together and lose their urgency. (2) I am a grown adult with plenty of responsibility already; this makes me feel babied. September 17, 2003 03:00 PM
