There's something about that name
As best as I can remember, it was sometime around the end of my freshman year or beginning of my software year at Covenant when Jonathan Davis said something like "Maphet. That's a fun name to say. Maphet. I think I'm just going to call you Maphet from now on."
And so it began. By the end of my college career I think only professors who saw my full name on the class roster knew that I even had a first name.
Fast forward to the present. Last night, my wife told me that fellow students in the Master's program in which she is enrolled have been calling her 'Maphet' as well. This in spite of the fact that no one else in her program is called by their last name, that everyone knew her before she married me as well and so should be used to her maiden name, and that she refers to herself by her first name.
So I guess I have a phonically pleasing last name. It makes for confusing family reunions, though.

Your name is just so soft and comfy and huggable. Kinda like you.

Pondered by Jonathan Crabb at October 15, 2003 09:15 PMI used to get confused whenever I called your house and your folks answered and I had to say "is Nathan there?"
I get that too. People at work spontaneously began calling me gosey about a month into my employment here, even though everyone else uses the first name.
Pondered by gosey at October 16, 2003 09:29 AMWhen people say the name "Aaron," I don't even think they're referring to me. I only go by "Mesh" now. I kinda like it; makes me feel like a cool action hero played by Bruce Willis. Mesh! Get over here! You'll wanna see this! That sort of thing.
