Oh, Atlanta

I'm sitting in a Starbucks in Woodstock, GA, which is 30 miles or so North/NorthWest of Atlanta. There's a group of guys in front of me arguing about Idaho, I think. I'm hearing strange snippets of conversation like "We've got the prettiest women and the ugliest dogs" or "That's why Idaho is the best", or "But we've got damn-fine looking cows." One of the guys has a huge wad of chewing tobacco.

Oh ... they just introduced themselves to each other.

One of the strange things is that 10-15 years ago the spot where I am sitting was cow pasture. Now, its yuppiedom, replete with T-Mobile HotSpot access, Starbucks, SUV's, Old Navy, and all the other accoutrements of modern suburban life. It's still the South, though: another guy just walked in with a cowboy hat. But instead of talking about farming techniques the subjects de jour are spyware and spam.

Ah ... the South.
