Christmas music
One of my favorite aspects of Christmas is the music. While there's plenty of junk out there, and its irritating that every single pop artist in the world feels that they have to do their unique Christmas CD, there's also a rich legacy of Christmas hymns and carols from across the centuries. Many of these songs also do very well at incorporating the message and meaning of the Incarnation.
Last week, while in Atlanta, my parents gave me a CD entitled Nativity Songs: a collection of songs done by a group that my folks heard perform at my old church. I've really enjoyed listening to it over the last week. Some of their songs are just OK (I'm not a big fan of their rendition of O Come, O Come Emmanuel), but others are done quite well. I particularly like Babe of Bethlehem, Soul Cakes/God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and Christ was Born in Bethlehem. And they've got a good selection of songs, including some Medieval-style songs I hadn't heard before.
