President Carter has a blog
(via Blogdigger News) Even former President Carter now has his own blog. He's using it to write about his travels with the Carter Center through Africa.
In a very strange circumstance, I actually ran into Carter and his group in Uganda in the summer of 2001. I was able to spend a little bit of time talking with one of his grandsons and one of the doctors present with him. Whatever one might think of Carter's prowess (or lack thereof) while president, I got the impression that he and the people with him really did care about the suffering in Africa.
The sickness and disease prevalent in Uganda was probably the most gut-wrenching stuff I have seen. There are very few words able to adequately describe what many people there face. And much of it can be prevented through simple treatments and basic education (i.e., going to the bathroom downstream from where you cook), which seems to be a key focus of Carter's in Africa. Carter's efforts in that regard are highly laudable.

Pondered by gosey at February 6, 2004 09:18 AMI wondered that, too. My entirely uninformed guess is that he's coming up with the basic ideas, and then submitting them to staffers, who in turn actually write them down. But, who knows?
