Comment Spam

The good folks at six apart (the makers of movable type) have a new solution to the annoying problem of comment spam: TypeKey. TypeKey looks to be a universal comment registration system, so that one simply registers in one place and is able to automatically fill in relevant information to all systems to support it.

This could have the effect of entirely eliminating comment spam. In fact, Jay Allen, maker of MT-Blacklist, is saying that he may not update MT-Blacklist to be compatible with MT3.0.

So, for looking into the future of BaltiBlogs and the other TerraBlogs site, how many would be in favor of or against TypeKey?

I don't know if I like this so much. In general, centralized services==bad. I like leaving anonymouse comments some times. Would I be able to do that with TypeKey?

From what I've seen, it doesn't look like you'd be able to leave anonymous comments with TypeKey - that seems to be the point. :)

It's all still in development, though. So there's no telling what will finally come out.

I'm not sure how feel about this, it seems to controlling and defeats the purpose of anonymous posting and I'm not sure I'd want to have to give out my info to every site and have someone else collecting that data. Sure, spam is a problem but I'm not quite confident in this solution at this point.
