Pastor-blogging

Doing Google searching on some topic, I ran across Jollyblogger, a PCA pastor in Glen Burnie. I think pastors blogging is a great idea, and have been trying to get my own pastor to start one, for a couple of reason (which I may work into a paper for a class in the next couple of weeks).

First, I think blogging can be a great means for theological debate. It can allow theologians and pastors the ability to interact with a broader spectrum of people on theological issues than might happen within the immediate community.

Second, for pastors, I think blogging can allow them to deal with a broader range of issues than the pulpit provides. The job on Sunday is to exposit the Word; blogging can allow for an informal forum to deal with modern issues such as Iraq, The Da Vinci Code, The Passion of the Christ, Open Theism, etc., and at least provide people who are asking about such things links to more info on them.

I wonder if there is an email to Richard pending from this??? Interestingly enough, I believe the church the Jollyblogger is at, is one that Amy's father did pulpit supply for and helped this church find this guy.

Interesting ...

Congratulations, btw, on the 300th comment on my blog.

I've been meaning to ask you your thoughts on The Da Vinci Code.

Also, totally unrelated, I met an Orthodox Jew from Chattanooga over the weekend.

I'm afraid I haven't read The Da Vinci Code, although I may over the summer. This is largely because I don't have time, and partly because I tend to instinctively not put much stock in any one person that claims to have unraveled massive, millenia-old conspiracies and deceptions. I just don't think humans are sophisticated enough. :)

That being said, there are some good responses I have see to the book. Christian History magazine, which has pretty good scholarship behind it, dealt with it here. Al Mohler had a more in-depth review here.

Perhaps I'll get to the book over the summer. Hopefully, I'll have a better response then.

Al Mohler -
"Those who want to believe the heresies of The Da Vinci Code will hold to them tenaciously--whatever the evidence. Clearly, the book attacks the Gospel, but the truth is unshaken."

This attack is precisely why I have no desire to read it. Better get it from the library Maphet and not give your money to the publishers of this book. Don't make me have to tell presbytery on ya!
