If Only
via World, the Drudge Report is saying that "A domestic centerpiece of the Bush/GOP agenda for a second Bush term is getting rid of the Internal Revenue Service ... The Speaker of the House will push for replacing the nation's current tax system with a national sales tax or a value added tax."
If true, this would almost make up for the Republicans' lamentable domestic policies as of late. Since I work as an independent contractor, figuring out my taxes eventually becomes guesswork. A national sales tax would be a million times easier to handle and presumably thus end up costing less, which would mean less taxes.
Next up: make Social Security an opt-out system.
