Out of the loop
Life, between travelling for work and taking week-long intensive classes for school, has not been conducive to blogging. Actually, it hasn't been conducive to anything - I didn't even realize that there was another hurricane coming until Saturday.
I did want to give a belated (just found out today) but hearty congratulations to Greg and Peninah on the birth of Eden Yael. Congratulations also to Andy and Jennifer Ross on the news that they are expecting once again.
On a related note (children have been on my mind a bit recently), I've run across some intriguing articles today describing the potential ideological and religious impact of differing birth rates. The Washington Post (via Best of the Web) described the correlation between religious beliefs, fertility rates, and states that voted for Bush. And Tech Central Station (via GetReligion) had an article by a pro-choicer arguing that pro-lifers are making significant inroads simply because they are having babies and pro-choicers aren't.
Personally, I find this fascinating as a reminder of the importance of a long-term focus. It seems that today all of the energy is upon immediate change/redemption, whether you're relying on an over-realized eschatology (for those on the right) or vituperative protests (for those on the left).
