On BaltiBlogs Comment Spam

Just the other day I was enjoying the thought that comment spam hadn't been too bad lately.

So much for that. In the last couple of days, as some people have noticed, there's been a steady deluge of spam on BaltiBlogs. MT-Blacklist is blocking literally hundreds of attempts a day, but some are still getting through because they haven't yet been listed on the global blacklist.

All of that to say, I do ask for everyone's patience in dealing with this. I'm now going through all the comments several times a day to see what new domains are being listed and deleting all the crap that is going through. Hopefully, this will pass soon.

I got one on every single post on my blog, but Blacklist cleaned them right up. Thanks Nathan!

I just got hit with another round from a similar address as the last time, but it looks like they are all being blocked, so no worries. One questions, and this may not be possible, but is there a way to have Baltiblogs not send an email for a new comment when the comment gets despammed, or are these processes decoupled (probably the case).

Thanks again!

The option to email new comments is in Weblog Config -> Preferences -> Comment Configuration. I'm not sure what you mean by emails when the comment gets despammed. There are no notification options set to notify when something is blocked (otherwise we would all be getting deluged).

A lot of the more recent spam I have been personally deleting after they've been posted since they've been slipping through mt-blacklist, so maybe that is what is happening.

I'm also looking to ban some of the worst offenders from accessing baltiblogs.com altogether. This is just too frustrating.
