First step down
Those who are aware I was in this process will be interested to learn that yesterday I officially came under care of presbytery. (See chapter 18 of here if you're curious as to what that means). Although that particular step is supposed to be the easiest of all of them, it was still intimidating. I'm glad it passed without any hiccup (at least that I know of).
While the examination portion of presbytery can be a little nerve-wracking, the different preachers I've heard at the general meetings have been beneficial. At least for the two meetings I've been to so far, both messages have been challenging and encouraging.
Next step: memorize the shorter catechism. It'll be fun.
November 10, 2004 12:47 PMHey, congratulations and good luck, I guess. It seems like this is a good, and big, step, but will also be very tough.
Pondered by gosey at November 10, 2004 03:50 PMWell done. I'm also in the care of a presbytery - the Presbytery of Bass.
The thing I'm trying to work out is, am I supposed to regard this prebytery as my "church" now. What do you think?
Pondered by John Dekker at November 10, 2004 11:16 PMOops. I meant to respond sooner. Sorry about that.
I guess that, since that my denomination says that those under care are still officially under the authority of their local session, I'll still be regarding my home church as my "church." How's Australia different?
Pondered by maphet at November 12, 2004 08:08 AMWell, I don't think anybody has actually explained to me what the deal is - but I had to move to go to college, and it's unlikely I will ever live near my sending church again.
I don't reckon I'm supposed to transfer my membership to a local congregation near where I'm living, though. I don't know - maybe I should look into it...
