Emerging Thoughts

This week I'm doing research for a paper on the ecclesiology of the emerging church. Right now I'm in the middle of McLaren's A Generous Orthodoxy and have a stack of other books sitting on deck as soon as I'm done with McLaren.

So far there are a number of points of the theology of McLaren and company with which I disagree. Some of these are minor, some are substantial. At the same time, I appreciate the irenic tone of the writers. They consciously demonstrate a laudable humility in their own knowledge and a willingness to extend a gracious hand to other traditions. This is something my own theological tradition is often not very good at and it is something I struggle with greatly (see, ahem, this as an example of me losing that struggle).
