Tap, tap ... is this thing on?
Yes, I have been woefully remiss in blogging as of late. I refuse to apologize, however, as it has largely been unavoidable. Some of my most time-consuming responsibilities are now easing up, I think. Perhaps I'll have more time to blog. We'll see; I've said that before.
On a random note, this interview with Jars of Clay on the subject of hymns and history I found interesting. It touches a little on one of the largest weaknesses of modern worship music, which is that they often sound like they've been written in an experiential vacuum. The simplistic, excessively cheerful lyrics make it look as if either the writer is lying, or he/she has never had any difficult experiences.
Bah, I'm rambling. Back to writing papers.

We have the CD they are talking about and it's OK but some of the tunes and "modern style" of worship just don't fit the lyrics at all. I can see that it's their industry to reach modern people, but turning "It is well with my soul" into a "Beatles reborn" song didn't fly with me. It is good though, to see that at least some musicians are trying for more depth. The thought was good. I hope others keep working on the style.
P.S. Love the pics. of Samual, I think this is the first time I've visited your official blog. :)
